Petition to recognise ‘Hinduphobia’ in Canada finds 6,000 backers

Alarmed by the frequent occurrences of vandalism at several temples in Canada over the past year, Canadian MPs have backed a petition filed before the House of Commons, the lower house of parliament, to formally recognize ‘Hinduphobia’.More than 6,000 people have signedAs of Aug 26, more than 6,000 people have signed the petition, which is the largest number for an open petition in all categories. The petition, sponsored by MP Melissa Lantsman, was opened for signature on July 19 and it will be active till Oct 17.Who’s Who Among the supportersThe supporters for the petition include the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Surrey, British Columbia. Anti-India and pro-Khalistan posters were pasted by Khalistan supporters on the gate of this temple on Aug 12. Temple vice president Satish Kumar stated that he will support such initiatives in support of Hindus. Brampton’s Triveni Temple has also backed this petition.Reportedly, Pashupatinath Temple in Brampton and Shri Jain Mandir in Toronto are also the backers of this petition.Who filed the petition?The petition was filed by the Canadian Organization for Hindu Heritage Education (COHHE).
